Appalachian Death Care & Grief Tending

The
Keeping
Room
December 9, 2026
6:30pm-8:30pm
Chattanooga, TN
*Women's Event*
A monthly circle of curious souls and tender hearts drawn to the mysteries of life, death, and the liminal.
Inspired by death cafe gatherings, our circles offer space and time to contemplate, question, grieve, and remember in community. Tea, poetry, music, crafting, storytelling, and ancestral traditions around death and remembrance are all things you might encounter in The Keeping Room.
Where We Gather
We will gather at a private home in Chattanooga, TN. The address will be emailed a few days before the event.
Sharing Costs
We all share in the costs of making these events happen, and a $15 contribution is requested per person unless otherwise noted. We occasionally have a gathering with extra expenses - such as a craft night - and those may have an additional cost.
Keeping Room Lore
Historically, The Keeping Room (sometimes called The Hearth), was an informal gathering space that shared a wall with the kitchen where family and friends kept warm and connected with one another. It was a cozy place, and a place for keeping each other company. Interestingly, The Keeping Room was also a term many of our Scotch-Irish ancestors used for the room in their house where precious dishes and important family heirlooms were kept. While The Keeping Room came to us before we learned of this history, it certainly felt kismet as soon as we heard it!
